TGI..., I don't

.
it's now warm enough for me to sit out in the swing seat first thing in the morning - altho I have to keep running in and out later on in the day to collect the cushion if I leave it outside, to save it from getting wet in the frequent April downpours
.
this morning I was thinking about something someone texted me before xmas: "people like you deserve to rot in hell" and I was thinking "thank g*d I don't believe in hell"* (because I was also thinking TGIF NOT!) (because I don't like Fridays)
.
(*which some people might find slightly paradoxical)
.
I think my spiritual beliefs, well I know, because they are mine, stretch from a continuum of this reality into the infinite. . .
.
. . .an infinite set of possibilities that doesn't include a hell - how can a belief in the divine include hell? well anyhow, I think that's rhetorical, as I don't "do" religion here (but participate in the view swapping/sharing if you wish, as I also don't do "telling you what can or can't do" chez moi)
.
anyhow my train of thought has been rudely interrupted, to coin a phrase, by SP actually awakening spontaneously for a change and arriving downstairs unprompted wanting to chat
.
so I'll catch you later
.
in the meantime, have a Crunchie!

playgrounds

the current house backs onto one (hence the "school yard" this morning - not because SP went back, but because the children are once again yelling and screaming all day long a few yards from where I sit and type)

I like that - the noise
.
it makes me feel connected
to a reality other than my own
.
as much as I like the peace and quiet when they're not there, the contrast I suppose; I'll miss it when I move; the new abode has a tiny little courtyard hemmed in on all sides - open to the sky above and I guess soon enough I'll find out how much sun there will be in the courtyard and when

of course, I am fortunate to also have the roof terrace as well - from which I'll be able to see the tube trains trundling past on their tracks which back onto the houses on the other side of the road; The Teen is obsessed with the idea of the roof terrace. . . but more on that another time, back to playgrounds

life's a little like a playground,
isn't it?
.swings . . .

.
roundabouts. . .
.

.
and so on. . .

slides sometimes really really shiney and slippery and you whizz down them so fast that you come off the bottom at speed and bump your backside on the ground, sometimes huge ones which you climb to the top of and then carefully go all the way back down the stairs because it looked a little too scary and then you watch other people do it and they whoop and holler as if it's really really good fun and you wonder why you're such a scaredy cat. . .

those precarious timber stumps which you step across one by one and if you're not careful and loose your footing you carve huge out chunks of your thigh. . .

five- or six-seater metal rocking horses that are okay to ride on your own, but more fun with others (I never liked being on the front of those - always thought if someone at the back rocked too hard I'd go flying over the top and land on my face)(might have been an improvement tho). . .

maybe a water fountain if you're thirsty

and if you are tired there's always a bench to sit on from which to watch everyone else having fun whilst you gather your energies again

I've been doing a little too much sitting about in the last nine months. . . and I am far removed now from my previous playground
.
I was thinking about band yesterday. . .
.
I don't really miss it, which I found odd,
perhaps because it was part of my "old life"
..
. . .I have a new one now
.
and today I was thinking about a song which we rehearsed but never put into the set list of a gig; it was a strange mix of A Town Called Malice by The Jam and You Can't Hurry Love - the first segued into the second and then it segued back again, and the most difficult thing was keeing the rhythm between the two; life is like that too - segueing from one thing to another and sometimes back again, keeping the rhythm, altho now I have no "back" to go to now - only forwards. . .
.
and as for bookbinding
.
well, the new abode is just around the corner from the local Art and Design school and I've looked at their courses and some do really really appeal - the individual aspects of some of the skills I was acquiring during my fledgling bookbinding/design/printing tuition, only not with regards to a making a book
.
some of the courses are on a Saturday which is good because I hate Saturdays; some are on weekday evenings - which might be okay, altho it means leaving the People of Varying Sizes on their own. . . which I have not been keen to do, seeing as I don't have them about all the time, but often means I am so bored of the fights and arguments that by nine o'clock I just leave them to it and "escape" to bed
.
(which is odd, eh? because I want to be with them, but they drive me nuts, and then when they are not with me I miss them terribly and wish I were with them)
.
so, new playgrounds for me, I think, is the order of the day and the courage to climb to the top of the highest slide and go down it, sit on a horse at the front, and step really really carefully over those thigh skinning timber stumps. . .
.

"a change is as good as a rest",
as my mother used to say
.
(which totally contradicted her saying:
"better the devil you know, than the devil you don't")
.
that woman has a lot to answer for
.
(won't give this up, mind. . .)(!)

two lives, two views

yesterday I was talking with the person who has known me longest (TPWHKML) in my life and still checks up on me regularly (as opposed to a couple of friends from Uni who send birthday and xmas cards and with whom I have the occasional telephone conversation and email exchange; my brothers, one older one younger, who don't bother with any kind of contact - the elder one living in Australia and the younger one in Kuwait - not that that's any kind of excuse in these times of virtual contact; and my father, who I have seen once in the last eight years, even tho he only lives twenty minutes away)

part of our conversation was about a conversation I had in 1986 in The Tate about Turner - the occasion and details of which I could not remember; obviously twenty two years ago it was The Tate, now it's Tate Britain, as opposed to Tate Modern, or Tate St Ives, or the other one. . .

this morning, as I looked downstream in an easterly direction, almost directly into the still low morning sunshine that blurs details and renders all colour to almost nothing in its brightness, I was thinking about Turner and the light on the Thames

and that made me think about how XCH currently lives, effectively, on a glass magic carpet, which is floating high up in the sky with marvellous views but is not grounded in reality, altho obviously it is his current reality; and this struck me as odd because WPIHL had once told him that he was "Perimeter Man" - sitting on the fences on the edges of other people's lives and occasionally joining in the party. . .

I used to organise parties - really good ones

my WWW and XCH both observed - at different times - that XCH was the foundation of my life, and this in turn led me to think this morning about TPWHKML and what roles this person plays

possibly a much needed set of supporting joists in the framework of my building

and all that made me think about how when XCH left, I suffered a degree of subsidence - and consequently my framework required underpinning; altho its foundations had been eroded and the structure slipped, the framework was still there; and that in turn made me consider why I'm a building on a "foundation", but XCH had a "perimeter" existance and thus now without what was a huge part of what was within that perimeter, is he still a perimeter? the very knowledgable and wordly wise Gordie once pointed out that XCH and I and the children will always be a family, even if we don't live under the same roof - so maybe part of XCH still perimeters that boundary (if I can use a noun as a verb). . .

and perhaps he will always be part of my foundation

as TPWHKML will always be part of my structure

and people who one meets along the way, firstly as beautiful additions to one's "home" (where the heart is) so to speak, gradually become part of one's structure as well

I know I'm rambling and I know dave won't understand this (and he'll only blame the drugs anyhow) and maybe you don't either, but it is what I was thinking about this morning as I watched the sunshine flood the river valley as the tide went out

back to the little brain teaser of the other day. . .
.

Pete Conrad (below) one of the moonwalkers (the image above is the famous one of Buzz Aldrin) took a tape player and cassette of his favourite songs on board Apollo 12
.
apparently his fellow astronauts were mildy irritated by his play list. . .
.

.
(when referring to Neil Armstrong's historic "one small step" statement, Conrad said, "Whoopee! Man, that may have been a small one for Neil, but that's a long one for me!") (sadly, he died aged 69, in a motorbike accident)

LARGE FRIENDLY LETTERS

DON'T PANIC

I'm in tail spin. . .
or head spin. . .

taking SP on hols to hot sunny place tomorrow and haven't purchased after-sun lotion (or, far more importantly, sun-tan lotion); haven't done legal/mortgage/insurance stuff I was supposed to do for potential new house "purchase"; did go to doc to get head meds and have breast exam (no lumps); haven't packed; do have passports and tickets and money, somewhere, I think. . .

actually,
I'm not really thinking straight right now
it's all bendy and loopy and backtofrontly

maybe I should get on with it all, instead of doing this
maybe I'll have a cup of tea and a smoke first tho, eh
where's THHGTTG when a girl needs some advice?

down, depths, deep. . .

. . .depression

why do they all begin with D

I suppose some words have to

I was thinking about how I got myself better last time - not by wallowing in it, once it had been diagnosed. . .

HA! another D

. . .but by taking control

back then, I looked up healthy, anti-depression eating and found out about the benefits of turkey sandwiches and almonds at bedtime, about why bread and salad covered in nuts and seeds are good for your brain chemistry (which makes perfect sense if you think it is only a few millenia since we've been hunter/gatherers) (nuts and seeds, seeds especially contain all sorts of good things that your brain needs for its chemistry)

I exercised, I relaxed, I did some self-healing as well as some introspective stuff, I did interesting things, made plans for the next few days - not too far ahead, just enough to cope with

and, eventually I beat it

so, this week I have:

  • been swimming (twice)

  • joined a yoga class (even invested in a pair of "yoga trousers" - not my ideal sartorial style, but one has to make compromises)

  • been to a life drawing class :-)

  • I gave a present and I received a present

  • done a teensy-weensy bit of retail therapy (in the sales - saved myself £££££££££££s)

  • talking of pounds, I have been taking my medication properly (one of the tablets makes you gain weight - PAH; one of the others makes you loose weight - HA HA; so I have remained my perfect size 10), taking the anti-anxiety meds at the right time so that they don't affect my driving to school pick-up, (such that CH's car insurance is not invalidated should someone prang me) (can you believe that they give you tablets which invalidate your car insurance?) (no, me neither), have worked out the perfect timing to take my sleeping tablet

  • eaten really well, dug out the juicer from the cellar and juiced all the fruit and veg I bought but wasn't able to eat; when the children complained about a lovely meal I made I threw it in the bin and ordered them pizza and charged it to CH's account and just didn't give a damn, quite frankly

  • looked up "emotions after divorce" on the internet and realised I am not in fact mad, but just going thru what a lot of people go thru (yeah, right - try telling the head doctor that)

  • had my hair put back to its natural colour (that's blonde, people, blonde; Swedish blonde in fact)

  • I have had lunch with one friend, a spontaneous coffee with the other (YEAH!! I have two friends!!) (and they have me)

  • had a nice hug from someone

  • made contact with someone vaguely interesting whose number I lost (thank g*d for FaceBook - and whichever one of you lovely lot it was made me sign up for it)

  • and I have a plan for Saturday night, so I'm not sitting here all on my tod

and it's only Thursday!!
happy Thursday. people

*EUREKA!!*

urethra?
ether?

no - ethernet!

so. . . today I learnt what an ethernet cable is

why didn't someone tell me before. . . stupid computer, useless BT HomeHub. . . even my new laptop (kindly purchased for me by CH, who sadly drove off in his silver soft top before checking I'd read the instruction manual) (d'oh) (I think Homer will be my mentor forthwith) (and there I was, thinking I was a cross between Marge and Lisa) (yes, Small People are watching tv in the background again) failed to work when I tried to go Sip 'N' Surfing at Cafe Nero. . .

it's all been very sad
but,
tomorrow no doubt will be a new day
.
sleep well
so. . .

today I am wearing a new perfume (I'm not going to indulge you in my other sartorial secrets. . .)

it's actually not that new I purchased it last summer on my way home from La Belle France when I still had a smidgen of spending power about my person (thank g*d, or your alternative/favourite deity) (not that spending power is what life is about) (and more on that later) but have not really had an occasion to wear it since

anyhow, yesterday, when I was doing some thinking (dangerous, I know. . .) I decided that perhaps one doesn't need "an occasion" to wear parfum

so I opened the box and took out the beautifully shaped bottle and tried a delicate puff of it about my person

now, y'all know - and time has proven - that I'm not really a "girly" type of girl, so please don't take this new pleasure of mine in the wrong way

I'm not turning into a girl

I mean, I am a 43-and-one-half-year-old woman (cripes, less if I actually take note of the calender - my doesn't time fly) but that is not a reflection on my nature

people are just people, whatever bodies they happen to be in - and you know I truly believe that a body is only designed to carry your brain around for you, most other stuff is only as deep or shallow as your skin or sub-cutaneous fat

I digress. . .

back to the odours of the day

I did have a previous perfume - it was called Angels and Demons

but I have no angels in my life (a couple of you guys being the exceptions to that, as I think you know) and I have had more than enough demons in the last year to last me a lifetime (or several)

I haven't consigned that one to the bin, just yet, as you never know what the future may hold and it may hold "an occasion" where I need to be able to be someone's angel or demon

and today I decided that I would just wear some of the new perfume anyhow, even tho there is noone to appreciate it - apart from my good self

the new perfume is. . .

GHOST

(but not actually that one,
my bottle is slightly less curvy
and is clear not frosted)
.

wow - doesn't the word GHOST look odd in capital letters? it is derived from an old English word "gast/gost" meaning "spirit/soul", and reminds me of the word "gust" which is derived from Olde Norske - but I'm not going into that now

back to spending power: it is not what life is about, even in one's middle age, as I was reminded the other day when I was reading that The Grauniad's pamphlet on The Power of Love

the pamphlet is one of a series on the Greek myths and love covers the story of Danae, Perseus and Dictys; Danae was the very beautiful daughter of the angry and jealous King Acrisius who had locked her up in a seemingly impenetrable tower with one tiny skylight, Perseus born to her from the golden love showered onto her by Zeus, the King of Gods and men (make what you will of a "golden shower", those with minds ruder than my own, but I'm not going there right now) and Dictys a poor lonely fisherman who lived in a hovel

when Danae, Perseus and Dictys got together (long story), she realised that she was finally happy - Dictys gave her something more valuable that the riches of her former home (the richly furnished but impenetrable tower, full of the golden love of the King of the Gods). . .

sunlight,

air and

vistas

if I wish you anything today, lovely people, it is sunlight, air and vistas; or any combination thereof

I was going to tell you about my experience of ghosts, but I fear I have taken up more than enough of your time already today
