the Queen of Hearts

The Queen of Hearts she made some tarts all on a summer's day;
The Knave of Hearts he stole the tarts and took them clean away.

The Knave of Hearts brought back the tarts
and vowed he'd steal no more.

This rhyme first appeared in print in 1782.
But the term and famous reference to the 'Queen of Hearts'
is found in Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland', 1805.
The Queen of Hearts in the story was famous for the saying
"Off with their heads!"
when she was annoyed with her servants.

one of the other things starting with F is father, and I saw mine today: I try not to see him very often as he is extremely grumpy and difficult and demanding and controlling and manipulative but on the odd occasions that I do spend time with him I always realise how, if one can, whatever the circumstances, one needs to forgive and be forgiven. . .
