I visited Liberty
which is one of my favourite shops (and has been for a long time)
part of it is a Tudor building (mock possibly. but I don't know the history) and there is a wonderful gallery:
I went to the haberdashery section (such is my love of buttons and ricrac and velvet trims and other bits and pieces that I think I must have been a peddlar of such items in a previous life)
I didn't go for the tana lawn, but I always love looking at the designs. .
and looking. . .
perhaps I should take a photo of my purchases and share the delights with you? (it was a kind of gift to myself, the trip; the purchases were an added extra!)

I love Liberty! Good knows how many days/months/years Ive lost walking around aimlessly in that shop!

What a beautiful area. I love older buildings, they just have more to look at then the ones they build today.

Mia welcome - in my case it's years: could account for why I'm suddenly 45! good g*d, and that's true. . .
sorrow I treated the friend I was with to tea in the tea room - they have the quaintest cups and saucers (you'd have just loved them!)
shot tana lawn is a kind of cotton fabric. . . very fine, and in the case of Liberty with the most wonderful printed designs
the building is unique for that part of London

Oh my.
Now, ya know I'm not a shopper--go in, get it, get out, go home. That's my theory...LOL But I do enjoy a wander about in strange places with unique things. I don't call that 'shopping'--that's an adventure! And sometimes it's an adventure in thievery! NOT cuz I steal items from the shop--just some of the ideas. :-)

156 days, yaknow--gotta be getting my ducks in a row.....errrrrr....ummmm..my ghosties lined up? LOL
my mother had some of those embroidery hoops Mel - but I don't seem to have them. . . which is odd, as I have her embroidery box
could do the same thing with small picture frames from a second-hand shop. . .
and - oh! - you'd love the haberdashery section in Liberty - it's a patchworker's paradise, a crafter's carnival, an embroiderer's emporium, a (ok, I've run out of analogies)
I bought little felt leaves and flowers, miniature silk flowers, black ricrac, linen ribbon with printed hearts, scraps of kimono fabric, wool yarn pompoms in the most beautiful shades, a funky button selection from 60s and 70s clothing, a couple of remnant pieces of the most gorgeous fabric reduced to ridiculously negligible prices. . .
. . .and I saw tiny fabric birds, so small they fitted into the matchbox they were sold in; and delicate cages of slightly bigger birds - both the cages and the birds made from scraps of vintage fabric. . .
I wish I'd made a note of that artist!

Ohhhhhhh......there's a local shop that folks come from the surrounding cities to visit--filled with all sorts of cool things. Maybe twice a year I visit. They did a birdie cage with fabric twisted around the wire--yours sound way cooler. And I'm liking the sounds of that stash of goodies you picked up. AND the wee birdies in the matchbox--a good reason to go back! :-)
Fun fabric at a ridiculous price--that'd be a dangerous place for me. LOL

Perhaps it gets better because it is only ONE, not a whole ruddy national chain!
(I still have a red silk scarf bought from there which I wore with a Carnaby Street outfit in -oh, don't ask!)
And I still have a liberty silk frock that belonged to my Mum :)
No way I could wear it - I've got a bit fatter since she gave it to me :)
