snow day!

the most beautiful thing are the icicles. . .
I do love icicles, as anyone familiar with the work of Andy Goldsworthy will know. . .

it's the way the light goes thru the ice as much as the way Goldsworthy has joined the sections of ice to each other. . .

and if only I were still in The Village, look what could have been done with the ice on The Pond. . .

One would think this is the first time Britain has seen snow, by the hysteria on the radio today.

Of course, it's the fact that it's falling in London for a change that makes the news. The fact that the rest of us have cold weather in winter seems to have escaped the media's attention.

For some, it IS their first snow in Britain. Perhaps the news is for them.

In other, unrelated news:

What's a four letter word for curmudgeon?

So has all of London come to a stop?

Personally, I'm excited for ya!
Lots of play! :-)

(play is good, btw--in case ya didn't know that......)

Mel not all of it - but I wasn't going to send the small people in, just in case they couldn't get home again. . . no buses and tubes - they could have all walked, but they don't have the proper footwear and the pavements are hazardous; the nice lady on the news this morning said conditions were "treacherous" and not to leave the house unless it was essential

so nobody has

apart from to play in the street - we've even had people taking their photos alongside our little snowman out front!

it hasn't been this bad for 18 years - I can remember walking over Blackheath (where I lived at the time) and down to Greenwich to take the river boat into work, because there were no trains, only to be sent straight back home again!

it is almost 18 years to the day, in fact - my mother was dying in a C clinic and another arduous journey I made that Feburary was to her hospital bedside. . .

Shot it is indeed the first real snow that Mini-Teen has experienced (or can remember) - she's so excited that it's quite delightful! I used to take the winter snow for granted when I was her age, and it's a joy to see her have such fun
