noise

it's NOT peaceful out there

angle-grinders, staple guns, hand saws, electric saws. . .

. . .too much traffic, too many sirens and too much honking of horns; too many planes and helicopters; far too frequent trains clattering over the bridge

I can barely hear the squawk of the seagulls above it all

It's very, very quiet in the close where i live. At the moment there is no noise at all, save for the clattering of my keyboard.

Good morning.

lucky you

(perhaps you need some DW-40 for your keyboard?)

Yes I am very lucky. To be honest I hate the hustle, bustle and noise of cities. Some people, though, obviously thrive on it.

*sigh*

I always wanted to live by the sea. . .

strangely, for the two years that we lived in the countryside, in Shropshire, it was just as noisey as we lived between an open cast coal mine and a quarry - so had huge lumbering trucks rumbling past the door all day long - and then, on clear sunny weekends, it turned out that people learning to fly small airplanes were practising in the sky above the house - so, if you were gardening, all you heard all day long was an annoying high pitched buzzing. . . and the view included the steam rising from the horizon as we were only a couple of miles from the local power station

so that wasn't exactly what one (a naive city dweller) might have considered an idyll

my most peaceful memories are of climbing Leckhampton Hill as a child, near the house I was born in, in Cheltenham. . .

. . .but if I had the choice and the chance (and it will be years from now, when my children have finished their education) it will be the sea for me

(but not the seaside, too many holidaymakers)

I don't live by the sea anymore (but only about 10 miles from the coast). I prefer the countryside myself.

countryside is lovely

especially English countryside (but that's what I meant about Shropshire - lived right in the heart of the countryside, not even a pavement outside the house, but still very noisey!)

my other dream was to be a crofter on a coast of the Outer Hebrides - countryside behind me, an ocean in front. . .

kinda like malc, only not with pigs

<-- Ms. Small-town-USA

And I like it that way.
The poor Brit has a love/hate thing goin' on with it, though.
Hates the smells (can you guess they were spreading maneur on the harvested fields we were passing on the way to our adventures).

Just prior he'd made a remark about wanting to live on an acreage.
Yup. He's now changed his mind. ;-)

And a fine Monday morning to you, ma'am.

But then, this is not about me.

When an aunt came to stay here from Lancashire, she couldn't sleep for the quiet :)She said it kept her awake all night.
