I've just spent three hours at a Life Drawing Art Class
we drew the female form, not the XY version; this time two years ago I wrote about my concerns about what's happening at CERN today - I used to be googled by people who also mis-spelt it Cerne (but whether they were fans of chalk men or ill-educated geographically-challenged physicists, I'm not sure): it's all a load of old bollocks basically, isn't it tho? I mean whatever happens, it will have cost a HUGE amount of money (when there are people starving in the surrounding continents) and won't change a thing really (apart from possibly String Theory); don't get me wrong - I'm no philistine and I do believe in the advancement of science - I'm a great admirer of The Hubble (even tho they didn't follow the instructions when they stuck it together - probably didn't have Lego sets of Meccano when they were small - so it won't last as long as it's supposed to) (not that that's particularly relevant unless you understand the speed of light and magnetism and wobbling stars and the like, which I can't claim to), and I'm sure that my spending three hours this morning contemplating a woman's nipples and breasts and pubic hair and bottom and elbows and knees and back and thighs and spine and legs and torso and arms and feet and hands and neck and chin and shoulders and nipples and breasts and pubic hair hasn't really done anything for the advancement of the world or the relief of poverty or famine and flood victims, so I'm not sure what my point is really. . .
. . .as I said, it's all a load of old bollocks

I wish that I had spent three hours contemplating naughty bits...wait a minute..I am a man so I do that for atleast 3 hours every morning.
You raise a good point, there are people starving and here they are wasting millions of dollars studying black holes and colliding hadrons..who am I kidding..I can't concentrate now.
Isn't today just a dry run? I think that the real sh*t hits the fan in a week when they start pokin' protons in funny places.
This could all end very badly..hopefully the blast will dissipate by the time it reaches North America..although if the space/time continuum is unravelling it doesn't really matter where you live?
I'm going to resume contemplating nipples and breasts now.
Did they really spend all that money contemplating naughty bits? Men!
I'm going to need a better definition of "waste" to form an intelligent opinion on the matter.
Will it be a waste if it leads to the development of nano-technology that allows irrigation and cultivation anywhere on earth and all future generations have free food forever?
If 10M people die in the cause of providing a better world for 100B people, is it still a waste?
As to elbows and bottoms, how do you know that you won't end up a famous artist and donate millions to poverty/famine/flood relief?
Hadron shoulda stuck to walls
zigz very very good, A* - go to the top of the class. . .
shot you know I don't do politics or anything approaching sensible debate on my blog, so don't tempt me. . .
now, if we were to meet in person, ah-hem, I'd be more than happy to talk until the small hours of the day after tomorrow and discuss all manner of things. . .
. . .but this blog ain't like that (try vicus')
sorry (not for suggesting you try vicus', but for being such a dullard)
have a hug anyhow ((((((you))))))
vicus I watched a programme this evening about the engineering feats that were the building of the loop and ATLAS and CMS (could be another cluster of random letters, but who really cares) and I can tell you there were no naked ladies or women to be seen anywhere on site
so no, they didn't (to answer your question)
and you'd be surprised how many female scientists were involved in the project, so your "Men!" is ever so slightly sexist (altho of course, none of the XXs were in charge, or made it on camera)
Men!
donn the female model had the most extraordinary breasts I've ever seen, and very odd nipples; the guy at the easel next to mine thought she was a transgender man - but I couldn't see any evidence of surgical sewing on her body. . .
Oy sheeeeeeshhhh.....
Now we're talking breasteses and furry bits.
OMG..LOL
I soooooo need to go to bed and try this again in the morning when I'm fuzzy and can barely smile and nod.
actually, she wasn't furry at all. . . she barely had a hair on her body (altho she had lots on her head)
her body was like alabaster. . .
hugs for the Thurdsday fuzzies, dearheart
I know that the Large Hardron Collider sounds expensive (3.2-6.4bn Euros, 2.5-5bn pounds) but that is over 13 years and shared between lots of countries.
Now imagine you gave all that money to the British government and told them to spend it on families.
It would pay for: closing down the failed Child Support Agency (2bn pounds), refurbishing and "re-branding" the Job Centres and Social Security offices (2.2bn pounds) and then they would only have enough left to sort out half of the mess with the Working Families Tax Credits system.
On the whole, I think I <3 nuclear physicists more than I <3 British civil servants. x
Yes the media love to throw large numbers into any equation and then they don't do the bit on the other side of the = sign.
I know nothing about what the Hadron thingie is supposed to do so I won't attempt to comment on its potential.
However, we did learn this evening that there were earthquakes in four countries today.
Would that be a coincidence (very common things), or a sign that the end of the world is nigh (also very common but usually somewhat anti-climactic)
*shrugging*
