Well sometimes I go out by myself
and I look across the water
and I think of all the things
why'd you do it
and in my head I paint a picture
Since I come home, well my body's been a mess
and I miss your gentle hair
and the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over
stop making a fool out of me
why don't you come on over Valerie?
Valerie, Valerie, Valerie

Did you have to go to jail?
Put your house up out for sale
did you get a good lawyer?
I hope you didn't catch a tan
hope you find the right man
who'll fix it for you
Are you shopping anywhere?
Changed the colour of your hair
and are you busy?
Did you have to pay that fine
you was dodging all the time?
Are you still dizzy?
Why don't you come on over Valerie?
.
I prefer THE ZUTONS' version
but you might like AMY WINEHOUSE's
or even MARK RONSON's

About L. Frank Baum...the L stood for Lyman (or maybe Lymann?) which was a family name on his father's side, but L. Frank dropped it and just used Frank.
I think that's correct, but please amend it if I'm wrong! (Dave might know 'cos the Baums were Methodists.)
