THE PROCLAIMERS
.
a little education, dear reader. . .
.
The Proclaimers (from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia); Birth name: Charlie Reid, Craig Reid; Born: March 5, 1962 (1962-03-05) (age 46); Origin: Auchtermuchty, Scotland; Genre: Folk rock, Pop: Occupation(s): Singer-songwriters, Instrument(s),Vocals; Years active: 1983–present; Website: Proclaimers.co.uk
.
The Proclaimers are a Scottish band composed of identical twins Charlie and Craig Reid . They are best known for the songs "Letter from America", "I'm on My Way", and "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)". "I'm Gonna Be" became the theme song for the film Benny & Joon (1993), and for several charity events, such as the Terry Fox Run and Red Nose Day 2007, as well as a Molson Canadian beer commercial.
.
The twins were brought up in Auchtermuchty, Fife. After several punk rock bands at school, including one called "Eight-Eyes", in response to the taunts they received in junior school, they formed The Proclaimers in 1983. The pair came to public attention when an Inverness fan sent their demo to the British band The Housemartins, who were impressed enough to invite The Proclaimers on their 1986 UK tour. The exposure of the tour won them a January 1987 appearance on UK popular music programme The Tube on Channel Four; "Letter from America" peaked at number 3 in the UK singles chart, while the album "This is the Story" went gold. The follow-up album Sunshine on Leith featured "I'm Gonna Be..." and "I'm On My Way". As of May 2006 "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" had remained in the iTunes download chart since December 2004. On 31 December 2007 (Hogmanay) they sold out a concert in Stirling Castle to celebrate the new year. The Proclaimers are celebrity patrons of the Association for International Cancer Research.

and for the Across the Pond contingent out there, dearly dearly loved as you are. . .

In around 2001, their song "I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)" was in a Molson Canadian commercial in which an American walks across the border to buy some Molson Canadian at a beer store in BC, but on his return journey he drops the case, shattering the bottles. The American heads north once more as the song continues in the background.

and for fans of animation. . .

Their song "I'm on My Way" appeared on the soundtrack to the 2001 animated film Shrek.

ah - Trainspotting, one of my favourites (*adds to list of films to purchase upon release*)

Canada has all that hugeness and emptiness - see my thoughts a lot earlier on in the year about "holes" (I'd do the link, but I can't - sorry)

that emptiness is a wonder in itself - altho for you perhaps it a case of not seeing the wood for the trees

literally

I've been busy in Blue Pill Land too, and have been missing my blogging buddies and their thought provoking, erm, thoughts. . .

but then, there's no point my being here and sitting in my room on my own all day, is there

altho I do miss everyone so much. . .

my friends. . .

and buddies. . .

the trouble is that by this time of night I'm drugged to the eyeballs and can't think of anything rational to say (altho my ECT memory damage is beginning to repair itself, as TGD said it would)

blah blah blah

*hugs*, dear donn, *hugs*
