re-reading

The 39 Steps (from my early teens) was fun; The Naive and Sentimental Lover (from my mid 20s) wasn't; now I'm going back (to my late 30s) to The Time Traveler's Wife. . .

.
LOVE AFTER LOVE
.
The time will come when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving at your own door,
in your own mirror and each
will smile at the other's welcome, and say,
sit here. Eat. You will love again the stranger
who was your self. Give wine. Give bread. Give back
your heart to itself, to the stranger
who has loved you all your life,
whom you ignored for another, who knows you
by heart. Take down the love letters
from the bookshelf, the photographs,
the desperate notes, peel your own image
from the mirror. Sit. Feast on your life.
.

Oh the time traveller's wife! A lovely book. I lost my copy so I'm very grateful that you reminded me of the author's name :)

(And I remember the 39 steps too. Never read the N&S Lover)

This is one of my favourites of all your side-bar quotes and sayings. So wise and kind.

I'm so glad Mig got to be first!

Yup....thoroughly enjoyed the book and still really, really, really like the Derek Walcott piece. SO much that I've got it written and kept in a safe place.

*happy sigh*
It's a keeper.
