my boy

so I'm in the swing seat in the back yard with Smallest Person, we are having a cuddle and a hug and a bit of a smooch

out lopes The Teen

he's been in a bit of a mood all day, apparently. . .

he gangles about for a while, being a little stroppy and trying to cause trouble and then eventually he says he wants a cuddle - ! - there's not room for all three of us in the swing seat (shame we're not at the new place yet with the huge hammock!) and as she guesses that something must be up for him to warrant such physical proximity, SP sweetly and discretely goes off to make some hot chocolate, leaving The Teen to curl his whole 6' 2" frame up next to me and wrap his ape-like arms around me and nestle into my shoulder. . .

:-)

. . .it is moments like this that make all the other moments worth while

I know why he's out of sorts,
and he knows I know. . .

. . .and I know why

the future direction of the current episode of his life has been determined: his parents are not getting back together, his mother is now a homeowner in her own right and these things are now set in stone. . .

even tho it didn't happen to me, despite how much I wished it had throughout my teenage, I do understand how he must be feeling. . .

:-(

today he had a day with his brother and his sister, and XCH and XCH's sister, at the bowling alley - and he wanted it to be me and not his aunt, he wanted it to be our family like it used to - altho he says he is already forgetting what being a family used to be like. . .

we talk about how - unlike some of the other separated families we know - XCH and I are currently getting on just fine (long may it last), how it might possibly be easier if we actually hated each other, how it's confusing for him that we get on and he thinks "if they get on, why can't they live together?"

I explain that that is the reason we're getting on - because we're not living together. . .

somehow it reminds me of Jack Spratt and his wife, you know:

Jack Spratt could eat no fat
his wife could eat no lean
and so betwixt the two of them
they licked the platter clean

but I don't know why. . .

If only life were as simple as the young make it out to be.

Years of fun for all the family...and probably a new Porsche for the chiropractor if you all hop on at once!
Enjoy it, guys!

Reminds me when we were going to Peru for a month and as we were walking out of the door, Eldest (who hadn't encouraged any physical contact since he started school some 12 years earlier)suddenly lunged at us and gave us each a gangly hug "cos it's a long way and you never know"
Oh it makes me feel all choked all over again!
Heavens, don't you just love them :)
