the art that yearned for me

my new painting is hanging above the fireplace

on the fireplace mantel is my Shaker Noah's Ark (a gift from XCH the xmas his salary doubled overnight, when we were living in the cottage by the railway line)

it is the most beautiful thing anyone ever gave me (apart from my three POVS)

and I think the art is probably the most beautiful thing I have ever bought

it was hanging in the gallery window for weeks - everytime I walked past it the light was different and the image changed

it is a very simple picture of clouds and seagulls flying very high, the clouds are various shades of grey and there are bronze tinges amongst them, the birds are very simple white slashes with minimal black detail - and the wonderful thing about it is that it is painted on stainless steel (mounted on a heavy white canvas box), the artist rubbed away sections of the clouds to reveal gaps in the paint with the steel behind; there are scratches which blur the edges of the clouds into the steel (a little like silver linings); when you walk past, or when the light changes, the bronze touches and the silver of the steel shimmer

exactly

and the promise of forgiveness and hope (altho there is no rainbow)(maybe there is an invisible one, somewhere. . .)

Now that sounds like a painting that could call to anyone looking for a silver lining!
Wow, sounds just lovely!

it's beautiful

*sigh*

and such a great idea, painting on steel - it's plain and matt in sections and then the scratching adds perfect texture. . . I have another of hers where the scratching looks like rain coming from the clouds and then there is plain section for the sea (the other one is actually a diptych: in the second section below the cloudy part, the steel is the water and then she's painted waves over the top in the foreground and the shore to one side)

(photo coming soon, I hope!)

Congrats on an excellent purchase and the decision to do so and 'indulge yourself' a bit. You certainly deserve it.

Ironically, I bought a small piece of art for my son just yesterday, to commemorate his show at Second City that day. I'll have to take a picture of it for you all when it arrives (having it delivered).

thanks! I'm really glad I did, seeing as I lost the new furniture

why is that ironic? (what show?)(ignore me if I'm being too nosey)

Since I'm only cyberetically in that Putney pub I can't pop round to see it, but I do hope you're able to get a cable!
