knock knock!

.

.
.When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now.
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings, bottle of wine.
If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me,
Will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

You'll be older too,
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.
You could be handy, mending a fuse
When our lights have gone.
I could knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride,
Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more.
Will you still need me,
Will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck, & Dave.

Send me a postcard,
Drop me a line,
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me,
Will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?
..

Despite being so drugged I couldn't get out of bed, I've still beaten the postman today.

Not that I'm actually expecting anything special in the post. I haven't for years.

I, Like The View said...

yeah, I know what that's like. . . (apart from my new polka dot clogs, which I ordered from one of those on-line catalogues) (which not only turned up as promised, but fitted both feet!)

Is beating the postman what passes for affection in Norfolk? I trust that "beaten the postman" is not some crude euphemism.

I, Like The View said...

I don't know - but I have managed to flush out my lurker for works for Credit Suisse! so I'm happy now, whatever the post(wo)man delivers today. . .

Yes, Vicus, "beaten the postman" is indeed a crude Norfolk euphemism.

I didn't get anything interesting in the post, either.

well, she says cheerily, there were lots of "interesting things" in my "post", if you chose to click on the links!

Scented candles, bubble bath, white wine, chillout music, subscription to Setanta Sports... no romance for me this year.

Unlike Macca I'm not quite there yet!
Love the sound of those polka dots.

I meant to say earlier, that the cottage garden illustrated is just what I have in mind for my retirement.

Happily and joyously received, m'dear!

((((((( ILTV )))))))))) (still!)

Polka dotted clogs that fitted both feets sound wonderful!

Flowers and candy and bubbles and hugs and kisses and dinner out and more hugs and more kisses and "I love you oodles" over and over again.....None of them via the postman, mind you--though he is a nice fella who appreciates the hot chocolate we present him with on those wintery afternoons.....

(((((( ILTV ))))))))
Happy Valentine's Day!

(When I grow up, I wanna tool belt JUST like the one in my valentine.)

I've never done the Valentine thing, but yesterday I went a little girlie and bought smoked salmon, asparagus, lovely dark chocolate and an orchid, for when the Man returned from his trip to the mines.(Today it will be back to my shovel, but don't tell Ziggi!)

Fathorse, today used to be the feast day of a Roman martyr, until the Vatican struck it from the calendar to make room for the 40 martyrs of England and Wales who were canonized on 25 October 1970 by Pope Paul VI to represent the Catholics martyred in England and Wales between 1535 and 1679.

If you can find a follower of Cardinal Lefebvre, who still celebrates the Tridentine Mass, you might get lucky.

Gordie... you're not giving a hug to the Frank Zappa song, right? I didn't think so. C;)

I, Like The View said...

gordie SP had an assembly about St V yesterday, you've missed some important details:

at this time of year in the pagan pre-Roman calendar there was a feast to celebrate the return of spring and fertility. . .

boys and girls would put their neames/tokens into a "hat" and when drawn out as a pair (by chance) would have to spend the evening singing and dancing with their "chosen" one. . .

when the Romans arrived, relationships between the men in their armies and women they came across were forbidden (so as not to distract the men from their duties), but a priest called Valentine would arrange marriages in secret - he was found out, put to death and then the story continues as you've explained. . .

:-)

craig yet another band I haven't heard of? I lost all my emails and song lyrics when I trashed my old laptop and am in need of a new musical direction - will now go look up this new band

I hope it's a good one

saffron hope you had a good one, sweetheart

dynamo that sounds lovely - do it more often, you don't need a day to be an excuse! (I won't tell the witchy one, your secret is safe with me!)

XXX to you both

LOL! ISLTV - Frank Zappa is more of an acquired taste that only comes natural to teenage boys C;)

I, Like The View said...

oh, well, OK, but - see, erm, I wasn't ever a teenage boy and my big brother (who I relied upon for my early musical education) used to listen to Floyd, Spirogyra and, erm, The Pet Shop Boys. . .

and I'm a a little too old for a teenage boy now (specially since I have one of my own)(and he listens to Iron Maiden, HammerFall and his latest "new band": The Rolling Stones!)

(altho just recently, we were in one of his favourite shops and he was chatting to the shop-guy and I said "oh, listen - this is one of my best current songs" and they both looked at me in that raised eyebrows shut-up-you-old-woman-way-you-don't-know-what-you're-talking-about and then the shop guy said in an off hand manner that he didn't know who had put the CD on that day and so I went on to say "it's a song called Jacqueline by a band called The Coral" and my timing was perfect - because it was just before the first chorus. . .

course The Teen said I'd embarassed him, but secretly I think he was proud that his mum outsmarted the shop guy)
