no, I'm not talking fruit and vegetables*
if we could (whether we chose to or not) time travel forward, say, for a year, say, what would we learn. . .
(*but hey! great timing, huh. . . a lesser person might have thought that I set that one up in advance. . .)

Uh oh......
Thinkin' this requires more coffee than I have in my system at the moment.
it may be a product of the fact that I haven't had enough coffee yet
normal service will be resumed as soon as possible
LOL "Normal" is a setting on a washmachine.
THAT'S what I know about "normal".
At this moment in time, with this limited amount of caffeine in my system--I'd wager I'd learn whatever I was open and 'ready' to learn.
Just noting that many things I thought I 'learned' got whittled away and honed into something different.
Yep......LOL MORE coffee!!!!
That made sense to only me!
ah!! I'd forgotten about the washing machine
(we should go into business and make some t-shirts with those settings, we'd sell out before we could replenish the stock!)
it made sense to me. . .
<----- knows that's a good thing

and yes, caffeine or no, ready and open is the way to go

XXX
I'd learn the result of some sporting events, and then travel back in time to place some bets.
If I were the sort of person to gamble, of course.
Otherwise, I'd learn what sorts of planst are going to thrive in my soil here.
sounds good
(the plants bit)

OMGosh--understanding that oughta SCARE ya. LOL
ha....getting another cup too...
first...dave...if you knew the outcome then it wouldn't be a gamble now would it?
if we traveled back in time...we could learn how and why....(me just wanting to know)
Traveling forward in time...my impression is that once I went back to my real time...I might have intense internal conflict.
How could I not alter my actions based on what I knew would happen? (the star trek Prime Directive not withstanding...)
It would be nice to not miss an opportunity...be it spending time with a loved one before their passing...or placing a bet on the odds of a quarterback's passing....smile
In some ways I think of the "Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" concept....
All of that future knowledge and infomation....hmmmm....I must only use this power for good.
and the thing is....given the opportuniry....I do not think I would be able to turn down the temptation.
it messes with my mind. I do not like tears in my spacetime continuum....
(the internet ate my original post)
I imagine that things would be amazingly similar to today, with almost no perceptible change to observe.
katherine the whole point is, you can't change a thing
by travelling forward, you see things as they are going to be - they will be the result of what you do in your real time, thus when you come back to your real time (whatever you have seen) you do what you do, whatever you know. . .
. . .whatever you do will result in the same future that you travelled to
the trip is a kind of moebius loop, you see
and as for bringing back a lottery number, that's fine. . . you'll win it if you want (you might feel a little awkward about that, so you might not cash your ticket in)(ever wonder to why some of those winning lottery tickets are not cashed in? people are already time travelling - !! - and feel real bad about "cheating" the system)
<-- personally has won the lottery multiple times and not cashed in the ticket.
k....
I'll go to the corner..
Lying is very very bad.
:-/
however....if it is the future....it would already take into account that you had visited and gone back...so what you may be thinking you changed....you really didn't.
my head hurts.
mel...give me the tickets honey...I will cash them for you...
I have more than enough trouble remembering that I have to be wherever tomorrow! Knowing that I'd been there (or not) would confuse me out of all proportion.
Much better to struggle on in ignorance and wait to see what comes.
I think.
So what happens if you go forward in time and you can't find yourself?
